Gauteng traffic police have cautioned the public to be on the lookout for two cloned vehicles used to hijack and rob motorists at night in Johannesburg.

The vehicles are said to be branded in traffic police and SA Police Services colours and operate in Ennerdale, Finetown, Zakariyya Park, Golden Highway, the N1 and the N14 between 16:00 and midnight.

Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Obed Sibasa has urged motorists to be extra vigilant when driving at night.

“A cloned BMW with registration number BWD 655 B, gold seven Gauteng traffic police vehicle. Occupants are neither traffic officers nor SAPS members. The vehicles have been hijacking and robbing motorists, people mostly at night. It is alleged that they operate around south and north of Joburg.”

Sibasa says, “As Gauteng traffic police and other law enforcement agencies hunt for the vehicles, we would really appreciate the assistance of the public.”
