Joburg EMS firefighters attacked in Eldorado Park
The City of Johannesburg’s Emergency Management Services has condemned the attack on its firefighters which occurred on Sunday night at around 11.30pm while they were responding to a reported fire incident in Eldorado Park Ext 3.
Joburg EMS’ spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi said: “Just before they got to the incident, they met a group of community members who were protesting in the area for service delivery. They started stoning the fire engine. In the process three of our firefighters sustained injuries. They were taken to Hospital for further medical care. We are indeed very much disturbed about this incident because it doesn’t only create fear and panic amongst firefighters but it also disrupts service delivery.”
Mulaudzi added that now that the fire engine is out of commission, residents of Eldorado Park and surrounding areas won’t have a fire engine available to respond to fire incidents up until the fire engine has been repaired.
He added: “We are pleading with our communities to refrain from attacking emergency services personnel while they are rendering this very important essential service to our communities.”
