Alarming crime levels in Lenasia South spark door-to-door awareness campaign in Moira Park
Moira Park, Hospital Hills – In response to the escalating crime rates in Lenasia South, community leaders in Moira Park, together with the Lenasia South South African Police Service (SAPS), Community Policing Forum (CPF) patrollers, and the Crime Prevention and Youth Prevention Desk (LSYPD), launched a door-to-door crime awareness campaign on Wednesday, 25 October.
Sgt Takalani Malisha, SAPS Sector 3 manager, emphasized the critical need for this initiative to address the growing concerns about crime in the area. Moira Park has witnessed an increase in various criminal activities, including house break-ins, theft, carjackings, and domestic violence. Sgt Malisha added, “We were very pleased at the response by the community members who are determined to help push down crime numbers in Moira Park. Residents were also given relevant safety tips on how to protect themselves and report crimes.”
Dineo Hlungwane, chairperson of the LSYPD, highlighted the youth’s active involvement in combating crime, especially with the festive season approaching. She noted that a crime awareness campaign in the form of a youth march was hosted just last week. In a statement to GLOBE POST, Hlungwane, expressed the community’s collective frustration with the rising crime rates in Lenasia South, saying, “We are tired of all the crime in Lenasia South, but we cannot do this without you. Help us to help you.”
The door-to-door campaign serves as a proactive step towards creating a safer environment for residents of Moira Park and the broader Lenasia South community. It aims to not only raise awareness about crime but also to encourage collaboration between law enforcement, community leaders, and local residents.
For residents seeking to get in touch with the Lenasia South SAPS, they can contact them at 010 230-0481, or reach out to the Relief Commander at 082 990 5332. This campaign underscores the importance of community engagement and a united front against crime in South Africa.
