In 2022, Lenasia South Ext 1’s Asemahle Bikitsha, and Ayabulela Myeko founded Mind Organisation, focusing on the mental health of young people.

Bikitsha, a first year psychology student at the University of Witswatersrand believes it is important to spread awareness to the community about social issues like mental health.

Bikitsha told GLOBE POST: “We founded the organisation to educate the youth about the importance of mental and emotional wellbeing. We recognized the rapid increase of Depression, Anxiety, Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder and Suicide among many other conditions among the youth which are as a result of a number of factors including, societal, environmental and personal factors.”

Mind Organisation creates a space to let young people have creative, artistic, political and personal expressions.

“We create a sense of unity and family, so as to enable emotionally conflicted young people to see that they are not alone. Mind Organization is a space for them to learn, understand the importance of mental wellbeing, be optimistic and find connections within themselves and with others,” Bikitsha added.
