Lenasia Ext 1 Library to host Region G career Expo on 14 & 15 June

The City of Johannesburg’s Lenasia Ext 1 Library, in partnership with Gauteng Department of Education and Managing Minds Better, will expose young people to career choices and career guidance on 14 and 15 June from 9am to 3pm.

The two-day event is part of a strategy to encourage the youth around Region G, it aims to empower minds through skills development, career awareness, counseling and career guidance.

“We invited colleges and universities as well as banks to assist the attendees with financial literacy and opening of students accounts,” said John Matli, a Senior Library Assistant at Lenasia Ext 1 Library.

Attendees will be exposed tools for future employment. They will also receive guidance on career planning and provided with insights into future opportunities.

The Department of Higher Education (DHET), University of South Africa (Unisa), Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), South West Gauteng College (SWGC) and Absa bank have all come on board to equip the youth with all the necessary information and resources to embark on a potential career path and job opportunities.

Mawilli Gaaname, the Manager of Region G Libraries, says there is a need for the youth to be exposed to career choices to uplift, ensure growth and sustainability in Lenasia.

She said the public and private sectors will have stalls at the event where all learners will get a change to explore every opportunity and services they offer.

“The attendees will have an opportunity to engage with various organisations to make informed decisions about career choices,” she adds.

Gaaname encourages youth in Lenasia and surrounding areas to attend the event as this might be just the place to make the best possible career choice.
