Gauteng Department of Social Development’s (DSD) Matimba Mathebula and Patricia Sihu recently conducted a disability awareness campaign in Finetown to educate the community about the various types of disabilities.

“We did not target a specific group of individuals, everyone was welcome to attend and participate as disability affects us all in some way. We taught people about disability, the importance of understanding and accepting people living with disability, and how to treat them. The programme also aimed at spreading awareness on the rights of persons with disabilities and making information available and accessible so that they gain equal access to socio-economic opportunities,” Mathebula and Sihu told GLOBE POST.

The campaign also demonstrated the government’s commitment to promoting, protecting and upholding the rights of persons with disabilities.
