On Africa Day, which falls on 25 May, at 4:30pm CAT, people from all over the African continent will come together for a special meditation session led by the renowned humanitarian and spiritual leader, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

This event is part of the 12th annual I-Meditate Africa (IMA) initiative, which was first established in 2013 during Africa Month in May. The initiative initially involved meditation sessions in schools and universities, culminating in a large gathering directed by Gurudev. Dedicated volunteers will be hosting meditation sessions across the continent leading up to the main event on 25 May.

The I-Meditate Africa initiative has become a continent-wide movement, impacting over 10-million individuals across all 54 African nations. Meditation is considered an art of stillness, promoting inner tranquility and sincerity on a daily basis. Through unified meditation, participants aim to tap into a collective energy that fosters internal harmony and peace.

This year’s I-Meditate Africa initiative welcomes everyone, including leaders, educators, youth advocates, cultural figures and citizens, to join in a moment of serenity and commit to peace and togetherness throughout Africa. The Art of Living Foundation, established in 1981 and operating in over 181 nations, has positively impacted the lives of more than 800- million individuals, with a 25-year legacy in Africa focused on trauma healing, rural advancement, leadership development, youth empowerment and prison reform.

Collaborating with the International Association for Human Values (IAHV), Art of Living Africa continues to make significant strides, particularly in mental wellness efforts. IMA pays tribute to Africa’s timeless wisdom, emphasizing that true peace comes from within and aims to create a widespread surge of collective inner tranquility across the continent. The 2025 initiative will introduce the SATTVA Meditation App, where the IMA event will be live-streamed and which also offers guided meditations and mindfulness techniques.

The campaign’s goal is to promote inner tranquility as the foundation of social harmony, economic progress, and a thriving future, illuminating each African nation with happiness, unity and meditative strength, and empowering youth, reinforcing social bonds and laying the groundwork for prosperity and effective governance.
