Public Works Minister Dean McPherson has sent a stern warning to so-called tender mafia groups. This follows the recent kidnap and brutal murders of five men alleged to be from a group known as ‘Boko Haram’ from Mamelodi, East of Pretoria.
They are believed to have been abducted on their way to Mamelodi following a dispute at a construction site. They were tortured and killed. Their bodies were reportedly dumped in an open field on the road to Cullinan. The group reportedly went to a road construction site to demand a 30% stake in the project or face disruption.
Mcpherson says, “There is no room for such mafias of people who will halt our projects. No negotiations. We are not discussing anything with them. We want to get our project running and deliver services to the communities. They will not get away with tha. I think people must start to think twice.”
