34 Years of Trusted Community Journalism. One Mission: Keep Communities Informed.
For 34 years, Xenor Projects has been a trusted voice for communities that are too often overlooked by mainstream media. Founded during South Africa’s transition from apartheid to democracy, our organisation has remained committed to one simple belief: every community deserves access to trusted, accurate and relevant local information.
What began as independent community publishing has grown into one of South Africa’s leading women-led hyperlocal media organisations, serving communities across Johannesburg’s Deep South through our three established news brands: Orange Farm News, Globe Post and Walkerville & Savanna City Times.
Together, our publications reach a combined community audience of more than 4.6 million people a month (August 2026) across print, websites, social media and WhatsApp. Every day, we connect residents with trusted local news, solutions-focused journalism, business opportunities, civic information and stories that celebrate the resilience, innovation and achievements of ordinary people.
Our history is deeply rooted in South Africa’s democratic journey. During some of the country’s most challenging years, our publications provided communities with reliable local news when independent voices mattered most. Today, that same commitment continues as we embrace digital innovation while remaining firmly grounded in the communities we serve.
Over the years, Xenor Projects has earned recognition for editorial excellence, innovation and community impact. We are proud to be home to South Africa’s first Solutions Journalism Network Accredited Trainer, reinforcing our commitment to journalism that not only highlights challenges but also explores credible responses that help communities thrive.
Today, Xenor is building the next chapter of independent community media through our Community Information Infrastructure Model—an approach that combines trusted journalism, multilingual information, audience engagement, responsible artificial intelligence and sustainable commercial partnerships. We believe trusted local information is essential public infrastructure that empowers people to make informed decisions, participate in democracy, strengthen local economies and build resilient communities.
As the media landscape evolves, so do we. Our vision is to demonstrate that independent hyperlocal publishing can be digitally innovative, financially sustainable and deeply connected to the people it serves, while offering a practical model for the future of independent community publishing in South Africa.
