Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi and Gauteng Department of Economic Development (GDED) MEC, Tasneem Motara, will be meeting with informal traders and small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) at Church Square on Thursday, 23 May.

This meeting aims to address the critical role that informal traders and SMMEs play in the Gauteng economy, especially in the context of the province’s high unemployment rates. Members of the media are cordially invited to attend this engagement.  Informal traders contribute significantly to the local economy by providing goods and services to low-income consumers and creating employment opportunities.

They are pivotal in alleviating poverty and offering livelihoods to some of the most vulnerable populations. This engagement with informal traders and SMMEs underscores the Gauteng Provincial Government’s commitment to creating an inclusive economy that supports all sectors, especially those that provide crucial employment and income opportunities for the province’s most marginalised communities.

The session will feature discussions on the regulatory environment, support programmes, Township Economic Development Act (TEDA) and the Gauteng Rebuilding Fund as well as the challenges Facing Informal Traders. Premier Lesufi and MEC Motara will also outline various commitments from the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) to collaborate, empower and provide support to informal traders and SMMEs to ensure their sustainable growth.

Media is invited as follows:

Date: 23 May

Time: 2pm

Venue: Church Square

Those interested in attending are kindly request to RSVP by 22 May to confirm their attendance.  Please direct your R.S.V.P and enquiries to:  GDED: Gift Langa (Spokesperson to the MEC) Cell: 071 941 2441 Email: Gift.Langa@gauteng.gov.za
