Although not providing an estimated time of restoration, City Power has said its teams will work on repairs and supply restoration after an explosion at its Lunar Substation in the evening of Saturday, 17 February.

A fire brigade responded to the scene of the explosion and extinguished the blaze which left City Power customers in Ennerdale, Lenasia South, Migson Manor, Finetown, Mountain View and surrounds without power supply.

“Supply has subsequently been restored to customers in Ennerdale while the other areas remain off. Preliminary reports attribute the explosion to multiple burnt cables. A further investigation will be conducted and repairs will be effected to ensure that supply is restored to the remaining areas,” said City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena.

In the interest of safety, the power utility has urged affected customers to treat all appliances as live during the period of the outage.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this causes to our customers. We will continue communicate as and when there are developments regarding the situation. We will continue to update the affected customers on the progress in the Cllrs WhatsApp groups as well as on social media @CityPowerJhb,” added Mangena.

For isolated individual calls and any other electricity related queries, customers are advised to log calls on citypower.mobi or call 011 490 7484
