Gauteng residents urged to be on alert as cold snap approaches

Gauteng residents are being urged to prepare for bitterly cold conditions, heavy rain and the possibility of light snowfall as a powerful winter weather system approaches the province.

Conditions are expected to deteriorate from late Monday into Tuesday, with temperatures dropping significantly as cold air moves into Gauteng. Strong winds are also expected to make conditions feel even colder.

Light snow flurries remain possible over parts of the province on Tuesday. However, residents are cautioned that not every area will experience snowfall, and lower-lying areas are more likely to see brief flurries with little or no snow settling on the ground.

Heavy rain could also affect parts of Gauteng during the cold snap, potentially creating difficult conditions for motorists and commuters.

While other parts of South Africa are expected to experience heavier snowfall as the weather system moves across the country, Gauteng’s main concern will be the combination of rain, strong winds, plunging temperatures and the possibility of snow.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for the colder conditions and continue monitoring official weather warnings and updated forecasts, as conditions may change as the system approaches.
