Eldorado Park SAPS, together with community stakeholders, hosted a Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) Awareness Campaign at Eldorado Park Senior Secondary School in Extension Five on Saturday, 18 July, to educate residents, encourage the reporting of abuse and strengthen community safety.
The campaign, which ran from 09:00 to 12:00, brought together members of the SAPS Visible Policing Support unit, Community Policing Forum (CPF), Gauteng Traffic Wardens, school monitoring personnel, the GBVF Brigade and Sector One patrollers.
The initiative focused on raising awareness about the different forms of gender-based violence, the support services available to victims and survivors, and the importance of reporting abuse as early as possible.
Sector One Manager Constable Ralinala encouraged residents to work together in the fight against GBV.
“Gender-based violence is not only a policing issue but a community issue. We all have a responsibility to protect the vulnerable, report abuse and support survivors. By working together, we can create safer communities where violence has no place,” said Ralinala.
The campaign also sought to strengthen collaboration between Eldorado Park SAPS, schools and community organisations to improve prevention efforts and ensure victims know where to access assistance.
Visible Policing Support Commander Colonel Chauke thanked all role players for their commitment to combating gender-based violence and building safer communities.
Police urged anyone with information about crime or gender-based violence to report it to the nearest police station or contact the SAPS Crime Stop hotline anonymously.
