What began as a simple idea to give back to the community turned into an inspiring Youth Day celebration as Ennerdale Art of Dance Studio partnered with Ladies of Hope to host a memorable event for local children on 16 June.

The event combined entertainment, education and inspiration, giving young people an opportunity to celebrate Youth Day while learning about the significance of the historic day. Children enjoyed a variety of activities, including face painting, dancing and interactive question-and-answer sessions focused on the importance of June 16 and why South Africans continue to commemorate it.

The programme also featured powerful storytelling, with dancers from the studio sharing their personal journeys and encouraging the youngsters to pursue their dreams despite life’s challenges. Two young women from Ladies of Hope also shared their own stories, inspiring attendees with messages of resilience and hope.

Adding to the day’s excitement, the dancers performed their own rendition of the iconic South African musical Sarafina!, earning enthusiastic applause from both the children and their parents.

Founder of Ennerdale Art of Dance Studio, Nicole Koeberg, said the event was born from a desire to make a meaningful impact in the community.

“It was a beautiful and memorable day. The children absolutely loved it, and seeing our dancers share their stories while connecting with the community made the day even more special,” said Koeberg.

The event highlighted the power of collaboration between local organisations and demonstrated how Youth Day can be used not only to remember the past but also to inspire the next generation through education, culture and community involvement.
