More than 460 suspects were arrested across the Johannesburg District during a series of intensified law enforcement operations over the Easter weekend, police confirmed.

District Commissioner, Nonhlanhla Kubheka, praised officers and collaborating law enforcement agencies for their coordinated efforts in maintaining safety and security between 3 April and 6 April.

The operations, which included high-density deployments and station commander-led initiatives, resulted in the arrest of 136 suspects during high-density operations conducted across various policing precincts. A further 113 suspects were apprehended during station-level operations.

A major breakthrough came during an operation in Johannesburg Central on 5 April, where police arrested a suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm and a suspected stolen motor vehicle. Officers recovered a pistol reported stolen in Sandton, along with a Toyota Hilux linked to a house robbery in Randburg. Two replica firearms were also seized.

In Honeydew, three suspects were arrested for possession of stolen vehicles and vehicle theft equipment. Police recovered a Toyota Yaris and a Toyota Corolla XS, both reported stolen in Brixton. Authorities also confiscated sophisticated equipment believed to be used in vehicle theft, including jamming devices, coded key programming tools, signal cloning devices, smart key readers, ignition readers, as well as multiple cellphones and vehicle keys.

In addition, detectives tracked down and arrested approximately 212 suspects linked to a range of serious offences, including contact crimes, property-related crimes, and other major offences.

Kubheka commended all officers involved, highlighting that the success of the operations reflects the ongoing commitment by law enforcement to combat crime and ensure safer communities across Johannesburg.
